Living life without God…

27 09 2007

“Preaching is a spiritual business. A sermon born in the head reaches the head; a sermon born in the heart reaches the heart.”(Leonard Ravenhill)

A Chinese Christian came to the United States and while he was here, he visited many churches. When the man returned to China, he was asked “What was the most remarkable thing that you noticed?” He replied, “How well the churches function without God.”

My dear friend Dr. Michael Brown says, “The majority of what we see in churches across America is simply man’s best effort to make up for the lack of the presence of God.” Oh the insanity of it!

Have you ever been there? It’s easy for us to point the finger at The Church (I’ve done it), yet it’s a totally different story when we look in the mirror. My good friend Tim Lindsay has always reminded me that “Finding fault with someone is a cheap gift.” How true. We’ve all done it to some degree or another.

The question we should be asking ourselves is “Am I trying to live my life for God without God?” Preachers, have we figured out how to preach without the Spirit of God? Moms and dads, have we figured out how to raise our kids without God’s help? Business owner, have you come to the place where you don’t need the Spirit’s leading in your daily endeavors? Are we really that confident?

I am sorry to say that I have lived too many of my days as a follower of Jesus without Him. Oh, He was with me, but I ignored His desire for fellowship (Prayer – talking to God). I was too busy with the work of the ministry, to be bogged down by still moments with my Lord. How ridiculous! What makes me think I can do anything of value apart from the help of the Holy Spirit? I can’t!

Today is a good day for all of us to slow down, get alone with God, and be filled up, so we have something to pour into the lives of others. Somebody is hoping that when they talk to us today that we will have more to give to them than just our opinion.

Love God – Love people!

The Normal Christian *lifeonline© Here at GRN, we are beginning a weekly broadcast called “lifeonline.” It is another way to help each other draw closer to God and live for Him in our daily lives.

Look for broadcasts to be added weekly (at the beginning of the week) to the blog. We hope you are encouraged by them!

lifeonline Broadcast #1:

God… I’m Yours

21 09 2007

” God, send me anywhere, only go with me. Lay any burden on me, only sustain me. And sever any tie in my heart except the tie that binds my heart to Yours.” – David Livingstone

I think this quote speaks a lot for it’s self. We’re to be willing to lay everything down for Christ’s name’s sake, and have faith that He’s in control of any situation that He may lead us into. Listen to His voice, and obey His every command.

facebook…”Support Global Response Network”

20 09 2007

If you are connected to ”facebook,” you can join a new group that has been formed called “Support Global Response Network.” It is a grassroots effort, started by our dear friend Michael Keck, to bring awareness to GRN’s work in Sudan. If you are a “facebooker,” then we encourage you to join the site and tell others to do the same. This is one more way for the GRN family to stay connected and tell the world that “people matter.”

You can also find some of our staff on facebook as well.

God’s Fingerprints…

I remember growing up and hearing my mother say, “God don’t make junk!” It was her way of saying that God made each of us to be unique and purposeful.

This morning while walking into my office I was handed a news article by my assistant, Carole (The Boss) Mitchell. The report stated that “Over 90% of pregnant women who are given a Down syndrome (DS) diagnosis choose to have an abortion.” (WORLD magazine – Written by Joni Eareckson Tada) As a parent of a child with Down syndrome, my heart sank.

While reading the article tears rolled down my cheeks as I thought of what life would be like without my son Jeremiah William. I can’t imagine wanting to live one day without his contagious joy in our home. My wife Elli says, “When Jeremiah smiles, his whole face smiles!” Truth is, when Jeremiah smiles, we all smile with him. Am I saying that we were all glad that our son has Down syndrome? No. What I’m saying is that we have found a treasure in what some people consider not worth having.

Today someone will decide to abort the life of a child with DS. They think that this will make their life easier and more “normal.” What they don’t realize is that every lesson that that child would have taught them about life, love, and compassion will disappear with that decision.

Psalm 139:13 says,” You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.”  I can’t say that I understand everything there is to know about DS or any other disability, or why God allows it, I can only say that “God don’t make junk!”

Please pray for those who are considering aborting a child today; these women are scared, confused, hurting, and they need our prayers.

Please remember, “Everybody matters!”
